Gait Training

Gait training

Walking difficulty is one of the most reported symptoms related to MS.  Impairments with walking are very common.  Left untreated, these deficits can progress overtime causing a significant decline in your overall mobility capacity.  The team at 810 MS Specialty Center are experts at gait assessment and intervention.  Our specialists will improve your gait pattern, strength and overall mobility.  Together we will work to determine the most effective plan of care to get you moving safely and efficiently.  Walking on a regular basis, at any capacity, is vital to your overall health.  Whether you are walking in your community or only short distances in your home, this can have a profound effect on your circulatory and digestive systems.  Additionally, a safe walking routine can improve bone health and overall emotional wellbeing.

Our physical therapist are experts in MS and ambulation.  Years of working exclusively with MS has allowed our team to quickly identify gait-pattern deficits.  Once this is done, we will start you on the specific exercises needed so you can get the most out of your day. We will develop a customized ambulatory program to address your walking issues. We will continue to assess if that plan of care is effective.

At 810 MS Specialty Center, we want you to move around your home and community with the most efficient gait pattern.  This way, you will expend energy as efficiently as possible which can improve fatigue levels. Our physical therapists will provide you with:

  • Immediate feedback and education on where your gait-patterns-deficits are.
  • Educate on the most effective way to improve your pattern to get the most out of your day.
  • A plan of care that identifies the specific deficits that are causing these issues which in turn are leading to larger impairments.
  • Assistive device and brace training = if you are in need of an assistive device such as a cane or walker our therapists are trained to know exactly which model is best for you. If you are in need of a brace, we have all the braces on site so we can trial what is best for you in real time.
  • Constant visual and subjective assessment to determine the effectiveness of your plan of care as it relates to your walking.
  • Exercises that you will perform with our specialists to improve your overall walking pattern and mobility capacity throughout your day.
